Back in 2002, a few craftsmen from Goochland found themselves meeting again and again at different craft shows in the area. The fellowship was fun and they found it was nice to have others to talk to and watch each others' booths so they could take a break. They began having discussions about which shows were successful and which they didn’t plan to participate in again.  They decided that they needed an organization to help emphasize the quality and promote the appreciation of the art of the handcrafted item; hand crafted items which someone has spent hours lovingly putting the finishing touches on.

And the Arts and Crafts Guild of Goochland (ACGG) was born!

We currently have 20 members and continue to grow.  We meet monthly to share information about shows we are participating in and to plan our own events.  We hold two shows of our own annually.  We are a base of information for each other on the various crafts shows in the area.  We take pride in using our talents to support community organizations.  Thanks to the assistance of local attorney, Anthony Paone, we are a non-profit organization registered with the State Corporation Commission. The proceeds from the space rental at guild events go to various charities voted on by the Guild Membership. In the past, we have helped with disabled children, Goochland High School Band Boosters, Girl Scouts,  and contributed to Goochland Fire Stations. 

Interested in becoming a member?

Our By-laws state the following requirements:

• A member must be an artist or craftsperson who is a resident of Goochland County, Virginia, unless a non-resident applies and is approved by a majority vote of the membership.
• To obtain membership subject to the above provision, an applicant must submit an item of their craft to be juried to become a member. Said item must be handmade.  If a member changes their craft, the new craft must be submitted and juried. Members will vote on applicants for membership, with a majority vote necessary for membership.
• To sustain membership, a member must continue to hand make their craft.
• Members must pay a one time membership fee of $20.00.  This fee entitles a member to one (1) craft space at a reduced rate at any guild sponsored event.
• Members must attend one meeting per year or their membership will be forfeited, and reapplication would then be necessary for renewed membership.
• The guild reserves right to revoke any membership by majority vote.
